Change tab shortcut

I've always resisted menu driven navigation having spent some of my formative years playing with vi editors (where you could literally do anything without lifting your fingers off the keyboard) .

Like most of us, I use ctrl-x, ctrl-c, ctrl-v to cut, copy and paste. I go a bit beyond the norm using alt-tab to change windows...(hitting the tab key sequentially to step thru windows) or windows-m or windows-d to hide all open windows..windows-shift-m to bring them back

...but until today I was resigned to reaching for the mouse to change from one tab to another in tabbed browsers. Today I found out that ctrl-page up (or ctrl-page down) is the shortcut of choice if you use Firefox as a browser. Sweet! Haven't found an equivalent in IE...just one more reason to use Mozilla firefox!

Artists at Work

On Sunday we visited an art gallery in Lausanne. Not only was there some very creative work on display, all visitors were instructed to grab some paper and crayons and draw their own interpretations of the work. The girls took pictures of their work. Somehow, thankfully, my rendition of a bashful woman (which was interpreted by the artist as a Ninja; and later by his friend as a scared astronaut) did not get caught by Brenna and our camera!

Brenna's Take!

Sunday stroll

Got in a nice walk to the lake with Dedi, Aubrey, Tigger and Telly. Brenna was busy at work.

Nice day!

John and Judy visit

Wow time is flying by too quickly! Hard to believe we're well into the 2nd month of 2008 already. I can feel Spring in the air, but maybe it's my imagination. The weather has alternated between cold wet and humid and relatively sunny and warm. The combination has left lots of snow in the Jura mountains and Swiss alps. Good for skiing, though I still haven't gotten out this year. I still continue to sneak in some good bike rides.

On the 28th I hooked up with John and Judy in Bern. Took the train, not the bike this time. Had a nice visit.

John, Judy and Dave up on a church tower in Bern

Both are looking great after a week of good skiing in Grindelwald. This is one of my favorite spots...which I discovered thanks to lil sister Becky!

John and Judy headed out to Budapest the following day to continue their European adventure.

I, on the other hand, with a forecast of nice weather, joined a colleague and rode down to Cernex, France to visit another colleague, Eric. We made it there and most of the way back before the falling sun and bitter cold cut the ride short. All in all we rode about 140km in what turned out to be a cold and foggy day, hovering right at the freezing mark. Not bad for a short ride, but painful in the long run. The highlight was a hot pasta lunch at Eric's house which hit the spot!

Sunday Ride: Yellow is the border with France, Purple is the route we rode and green was the original planned route that we scrapped due to cold weather! The blue lake is Lac Leman which to put the route in perspective has a circumference of 170km.

On Tuesday I flew out to Dresden on a business trip. Flew in to Berlin and drove to Dresden. This was my first autobahn experience. Next time I'm getting a bigger car! My VW Polo inched up to 175 Km/hour and would do no more. Although maybe that's better considering my lack of autobahn driving experience....
