Chris & Ron ..Visit to Zermatt

Our friends Chris and Ron and their two daughters spent the last week with us here. It was a great time. Still unbelievable that we managed with 8 people & 2 dogs in 1100 sq. feet! But it worked!

On Tuesday, Ron and I rode the complete Lac leman loop...This is the longest I've ever ridden in one day...110 miles! But Ron did most of the work and it didn't seem too bad to me...he claims he did the work (leading) because the thought of riding behing me and watching me pumping the pedals in shorts that were about 30 rides too thin, was just too much!

So the shorts were retired to the trash bin and I'm ready for another ride!

That night, our our town celebrated Swiss independence day with fireworks and a huge bonfire...complete with a full team of firefighters and about 45 firehoses, ready to drain lac leman to put out stray sparcs!

On Saturday we took the train out to Zermatt. It was rainy and cold, but still beautiful. Realizing we were all too tired to turn around and head back that same evening we sought out a hotel and stayed thru Sunday.. That morning we were fortunate to see the elusive Matterhorn! We also went down 15 meters inside a glacier...a bit commercial but mind boggling nonethess.

On the down side, I discovered that I will need to travel the weekend of my long awaited Grand Raid ride...bummer...anyone interested in taking my place? It's paid for...
